The total monthly salary of a Tehsildar is usually between 65,000 to 75,000. However, these figures do not account for the significant responsibilities that come with this position. A Tehsildar oversees a substantial workforce, including BDOs, VLOs, Patwaris, lawmen, and manages a substantial development budget. In some cases, a less than honest tehsildar can potentially earn more than a million rupees a year in a corrupt environment.

Promotion in Pakistan
A Deputy Tehsildar plays the role of Tehsildar in Grade 16. As per the regulations, 20 per cent of these promotions are on the basis of seniority, while the remaining posts are filled through PPSC/FPSC. Thereafter, a Tehsildar promoted to the post of PMS Officer in Grade 17 may be assigned as Assistant Commissioner (AC).

The tehsildar occupies an important position within the state government, having extensive responsibilities and significant authority to maintain all land and revenue records within his tehsil. The collection of land revenue is the responsibility of their staff, including the Revenue Inspector (RI) and Patwari. The office of Tehsildar also handles all matters relating to land and property acquisition.

Additionally, they oversee all public lands, making decisions about their allocation for various projects such as schools, hospitals and more. Tahsildars are well endowed with magisterial powers, which enable them to deal with public order and disorder related issues.

Tehsildars are also involved in monitoring the supply of essential commodities from food to seeds and fertilizers within their tehsil. The role of Tehsildar carries important land duties and responsibilities.

He has the authority of Executive Magistrate, Assistant Collector, and Sub-Registrar/Joint Sub-Registrar.

He holds the supervisory post of Tehsil Revenue Agency, whose primary responsibility is to ensure accurate preparation and maintenance of Tehsil Revenue Records and Revenue Accounts. Moreover, he is responsible for recovery of government dues as per applicable Act.

Effective monitoring of the activities of patwaris and legislators is also included in their duties. To fulfill this role, Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar conduct regular inspections of patwaris and lawmen under their supervision.
